Welcome to The Baltimore Sun’s new Retro Baltimore blog, which will offer glimpses of Charm City from the not-so-distant past. Baltimoreans seem to have nostalgia in their DNA, so we’re here to celebrate that often sepia-toned city that lives in memory — the Baltimore of Martick’s Restaurant Francais, Read’s drugstores, the Enchanted Forest, Jerry Turner and Al Sanders, the Royal Theatre and Hochschild Kohn.

Retro Baltimore will revisit the people, places and things that populate our shared memories. Here, we’ll relive memorable moments, reveal fabulous archive photos, catch up with old newsmakers, tap into pop-culture nostalgia, post trivia quizzes and let you share your own retro pictures.

To start, we’ve plumbed the depths of The Baltimore Sun’s expansive photo archive and here present 50 signature images (in random order) that link to that past.

Welcome aboard!
